For the week that ended on September 23rd, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's The Little Mermaid (2023) topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The latest live-action remake of a Disney animated classic opened over the Memorial Day weekend in May to mixed reviews, and while it has grossed over $569 million globally so far, the international box office take has been a disappointing $271 million, with the film having a reported budget of about $250 million. This week, The Little Mermaid had an HD share of 54%, with 18% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Note that while the Blu-ray was a wide release available at all retailers, the film's 4K UHD releases were retailer exclusives for Disney Movie Club, along with a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook and Walmart Exclusive with Enamel Pin.

Dropping to second place on both charts in its third week is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse finds Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy traveling across the multiverse and meeting the Spider-Society, and it began development even before the first film was released and became a breakout hit back in 2018. Like its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was both a critical and commercial success, earning positive reviews from both critics and audiences and grossing over $381 million domestically and $689 million worldwide, so far. This week, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sold 99.79% as many Blu-ray units as The Little Mermaid, with an HD share of 75% and 26% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Third place on the Blu-ray-only chart went to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's The Exorcist, which was released on 4K UHD this week to celebrate the film's 50th anniversary. The 4K UHD release included both the theatrical version and the extended director's cut, with Dolby Atmos audio as well as the original DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono audio on the theatrical version. In addition to standard packaging, a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook was also made available. However, since Blu-ray discs were not included in either version, most of the video extras from previous editions were not included. This week, The Exorcist sold 47% as many Blu-ray units as The Little Mermaid, with an HD share of 88% and 87% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Past Lives debuted at No. 9 on the Blu-ray-only chart and Sony's The Last Dragon, which was released on 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 10. Outside the top ten, Liongate's Fall (2022), which also got a 4K UHD release this week, came in at No. 12 and The Trial (1962), which was released on Blu-ray and 4K UHD by the Criterion Collection, came in at No. 17.
