Warner Archive has announced its October batch of Blu-ray releases. They are: In Love and War (1996), Mad City (1997), Double Trouble (1967), Rapa Nui (1994), The Devil Doll (1936), Dance, Fools, Dance (1931), and Looney Tunes Collector's Choice: Volume 2.
Mad City
Description: Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta team up with award-winning filmmaker Costa-Gavras (Z, Missing) in a fierce tale of ratings-driven TV news gone mad. Travolta is Sam, a misguided museum guard who loses his job, then tries to get it back…at gunpoint. Hoffman is Max. a local TV reporter taken hostage with schoolchildren when Sam locks down the museum. It is a desperate move for Sam, a career move for Max. He is on the inside of a live exclusive. Now he must give Sam's story a heroic spin, keep a cynical network anchor (Alan Alda) at bay, and keep America watching. As Max pulls the strings, the stakes grow higher, darker, madder.

Rapa Nui
Description: An island paradise becomes a scarred paradise lost in the spectacular South Seas adventure Rapa-Nui, co-produced by Kevin Costner, and directed by Kevin Reynolds. Jason Scott Lee (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story) and Esai Morales (La Bamba) play boyhood friends turned fierce rivals in this tumultuous tale of love and war. Each loves the same woman (Sandrine Holt of Black Robe) – and each intends to win her in marriage by competing for the island leadership in a genuine tribal contest.

The Devil Doll
Description: Master of the macabre Tod Browning (Freaks) created this spine-tingler about madness, murder and revenge. It stars Oscar-winning screen legend Lionel Barrymore as an escaped convict who uses a mad scientist's shrinking serum to create tiny people. He then disguises himself as a kindly old lady running a toy store, so he can secretly send his tiny assassins out to exact a terrifying revenge on the men who framed him. Special-effects genius Leonard Smith created the trick photography that Michael Weldon (The Psychotronic Encyclopedia) called "better than (that of) any other shrunken-people movie". Maureen O'Sullivan co-stars as Barrymore's innocent daughter and Frank Lawton as her devoted suitor. Rafaela Ottiano adds a note of horror as the maniacal widow of the twisted scientist. Full of menacing moments and hair-raising scenes "certain to return in nightmares" (Pauline Kael), this is truly an unforgettable horror movie classic, now stunningly remastered!

Double Trouble
Description: When crooner Guy Lambert wraps his London show and travels to Brussels, two beauties secretly follow. One (Annette Day) is a lovestruck heiress, the other (Yvonne Romain) an enigmatic temptress. And they could be two too much for the attached Guy. Comedy, mystery and mayhem combine when Elvis Presley plays Guy in Double Trouble, a romp involving stolen gems, trenchcoated defectives – that is, detectives! – and more. Through it all, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. That means performing a tune array that include the title tune "City By Night", "Could I Fall in Love?" "Long-Legged Girl" and "There's So Much World to See". Trouble was never this cool and this much fun.

Dance, Fools, Dance
Description: Look out, Jake Luva! That sinuous moll cuddling up to you on the dance floor is not the floozy she seems. She's Bonnie Jordan, ex-society girl and undercover reporter, investigating a murder that has your fingerprints all over it. She has what it takes, all right - to take you and your crime empire down. As Bonnie and Jake, Joan Crawford and Clark Gable exude plenty of pre-code sensuality in their first screen teaming. Gable is fifth-billed, but the moment he and Crawford go into a clinch, there is no question who in the film could match her star power. Crawford and Gable went on to make seven more films together. And each smoldered with the red-hot chemistry originally sparked in "Dance, Fools, Dance".
