Tech site iFixit has posted a detailed teardown of the new PlayStation 3 Slim, with
some
interesting findings, including the confirmation that, like the original model,
the
slim PS3 will have a universal power supply unit. Officially, PS3s only
support the
voltage for the territory they are sold in (110V in the US, 240V in the UK,
etc.).
However, they are actually designed to accept all common AC voltages
worldwide.
As you can see on the PSU labeling above, it accepts 100-240V at 50- 60Hz. That means that anyone can take his or her slim PS3 overseas and just plug it into a wall socket with a different voltage, and the console will work normally and without suffering any damage. No stepup or stepdown transformer is required.
Of course, the console still has its DVD and Blu-ray regions, which will vary depending on the territory.
