Blu-ray Sales: August 13-19: Fast X Still in the Lead in Second Week

For the week that ended on August 19th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Fast X remained atop both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its second week. The tenth sequel in the Fast and Furious franchise opened in May to decidedly mixed reviews and while it topped the box office on its opening weekend with over $67 million, it made the majority of its $700-plus million internationally. This week, Fast X had an HD share of 52%, with 12% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Remaining in second place on both charts in its third week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe caps the well-received trilogy, this time placing Rocket Raccoon at the heart of the story and offering some surprisingly dark and emotional backstory for the wisecracking character as the Guardians try to protect him from the High Evolutionary, a mad scientist from Rocket's past. Despite coming six years after Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, audiences responded positively to this final volume, with the film making over $118 million domestically on its opening weekend, on its way to a total of $359 million and over $845 million worldwide. This week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sold 47% as many Blu-ray units as Fast X, with an HD share of 54% and 17% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Babylon 5: The Road Home. An animated sequel released as part of the 30th anniversary of the original live-action Babylon 5 TV series, Babylon 5: The Road Home featured voice acting from many of the series' stars, including Bruce Boxleitner, Claudia Christian, Peter Jurasik, Bill Mumy, Tracy Scoggins and Patricia Tallman. This week, Babylon 5: The Road Home sold 30% as many Blu-ray units as Fast X, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 49% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Universal's Asteroid City debuted at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart (with a strong HD share of 74%), while Mill Creek's Nefarious (2023) debuted at No. 8. Outside the top ten, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's The Machine (2023) debuted at No. 11.
