Blu-ray Sales: August 6-12: Fast X Speeds to the Head of the Charts

For the week that ended on August 12th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Fast X topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The tenth sequel in the Fast and Furious franchise opened in May to decidedly mixed reviews and while it topped the box office on its opening weekend with over $67 million, it made the majority of its $700-plus million internationally. This week, Fast X had an HD share of 58%, with 18% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Dropping to second place on both charts in its second week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe caps the well-received trilogy, this time placing Rocket Raccoon at the heart of the story and offering some surprisingly dark and emotional backstory for the wisecracking character as the Guardians try to protect him from the High Evolutionary, a mad scientist from Rocket's past. Despite coming six years after Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, audiences responded positively to this final volume, with the film making over $118 million domestically on its opening weekend, on its way to a total of $359 million and over $845 million worldwide. This week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sold 47% as many Blu-ray units as Fast X, with an HD share of 57% and 21% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Debuting in third place on both charts is Paramount Home Media Distribution's 1923: Season One. The latest Yellowstone spin-off stars no less than Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as ancestors of the Dutton family. This week, 1923: Season One sold 17% as many Blu-ray units as Fast X, with an HD share of 26%.

Elsewhere on the charts, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Enter the Dragon, which was released on 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 6 on the Blu-ray-only chart and topped the UHD Market Share chart for the week, with over 99% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. MVD Visual's remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases of Swamp Thing (1982) came in at No. 8 on the Blu-ray-only chart and came in second on the UHD Market Share chart, with 89% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
