For the week that ended on August 5th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 easily topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe caps the well-received trilogy, this time placing Rocket Raccoon at the heart of the story and offering some surprisingly dark and emotional backstory for the wisecracking character as the Guardians try to protect him from the High Evolutionary, a mad scientist from Rocket's past. Despite coming six years after Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, audiences responded positively to this final volume, with the film making over $118 million domestically on its opening weekend, on its way to a total of $359 million and over $845 million worldwide. This week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had an HD share of 68%, with 34% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Remaining in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's John Wick: Chapter 4. The fourth installment in the John Wick series saw the titular hitman in yet more outrageous gun battles and fight sequences, as he takes revenge on the High Table over a whopping 169 minutes of nearly non-stop action. The film opened in March 2023 to near-universal acclaim and topped the box office on its opening weekend, with over $73 million, on its way to over $187 million domestically and over $426 million globally. This week, John Wick: Chapter 4 sold just 11% as many Blu-ray units as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with an HD share of 67% and 21% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

And remaining in third place is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Released theatrically in April 2023, the animated adaptation of the hugely popular Nintendo video game series received mixed reviews, but smashed several box office records, including taking only a week to become the highest-grossing film based on a video game and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023, with over $574 million domestically and a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide. This week, The Super Mario Bros. Movie sold just 10% as many Blu-ray units as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with an HD share of 54% and 14% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Paramount Home Media Distribution's Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which was released on 4K UHD this week, came in at No. 6 on the Blu-ray-only chart and handily topped the UHD Market Share chart for the week, with 97% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Outside the top ten, Lionsgate's About My Father debuted at No. 11, while Universal's The Big Lebowski, which got a new 4K UHD edition this week, came in at No. 14. Finally, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Rio Bravo, which also got a 4K UHD release this week, came in at No. 18.
