For the week that ended on July 29th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Resident Evil: Death Island topped the Blu-ray-only chart in its debut. The fourth CGI animated film in the Resident Evil franchise was announced by Capcom in February 2023 and released theatrically in Japan in July 2023. In most other territories, it saw a direct-to-video release from Sony, who issued it in the US on Blu-ray and as a 4K UHD SteelBook edition. This week, Resident Evil: Death Island had an HD share of 72%, with 21% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Dropping to second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's John Wick: Chapter 4. The fourth installment in the John Wick series saw the titular hitman in yet more outrageous gun battles and fight sequences, as he takes revenge on the High Table over a whopping 169 minutes of nearly non-stop action. The film opened in March 2023 to near-universal acclaim and topped the box office on its opening weekend, with over $73 million, on its way to over $187 million domestically and over $426 million globally. This week, John Wick: Chapter 4 sold 95% as many Blu-ray units as Resident Evil: Death Island, with an HD share of 68% and 21% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Dropping to third place is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Released theatrically in April 2023, the animated adaptation of the hugely popular Nintendo video game series received mixed reviews, but smashed several box office records, including taking only a week to become the highest-grossing film based on a video game and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023, with over $574 million domestically and a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide. This week, The Super Mario Bros. Movie sold 93% as many Blu-ray units as Resident Evil: Death Island, with an HD share of 56% and 16% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's releases of Justice League: Warworld and The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart debuted on the Blu-ray-only chart at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Outside the top ten, Lionsgate's Blu-ray of My Best Friend Is a Vampire came in at No. 11, while the Criterion Collection's Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases of One False Move came in at No. 14. Kino Lorber's 4K UHD release of Needful Things sent that film to No. 16, while Shout Factory's 4K UHD release of World War Z got that film to No. 19.
