For the week that ended on June 10th, an early release ot Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's The Super Mario Bros. Movie topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. Released theatrically in April 2023, the animated adaptation of the hugely popular Nintendo video game series received mixed reviews, but smashed several box office records, including taking only a week to become the highest-grossing film based on a video game and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023, with over $571 million domestically and a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide, so far. Although it has an official street date of June 13th, at least three major retailers, Best Buy, Target and Walmart, had copies available early due to apparent confusion about the correct release date. In addition to standard Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions, all three retailers also had their exclusives available early, as well, including a Best Buy Exclusive 4K UHD SteelBook, a Target Exclusive Blu-ray with Lenticular Artwork and both a Walmart Exclusive 4K UHD Gift Set and a Walmart Exclusive Blu-ray Gift Set. This week, The Super Mario Bros. Movie had an HD share of 68% and 19% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

But that wasn't the only title to be released early this week, as Lionsgate Home Entertainment's John Wick: Chapter 4 saw an early release at Walmart, followed by a last-minute release date change from June 13th, to Friday, June 9th. The fourth installment in the John Wick series saw the titular hitman in yet more outrageous gun battles and fight sequences, as he takes revenge on the High Table over a whopping 169 minutes of nearly non-stop action. The film opened in March 2023 to near-universal acclaim and topped the box office on its opening weekend, with over $73 million. So far, the film has made over $187 million domestically and over $427 million globally. This week, John Wick: Chapter 4 sold 33% as many Blu-ray units as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, an HD share of 76% and 29% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

And so, dropping to third place on both charts in its second week is Paramount Home Media Distribution's Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The action comedy is based on the titular role-playing game which was previously adapted as a theatrical film in 2000 and two direct-to-video sequels, This reboot has no connection to those films and opened in March 2023 to generally positive reviews. topping the box office on its opening weekend en route to over $93 million domestically and over $208 million globally. This week, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves sold 16% as many Blu-ray units as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, an HD share of 65% and 24% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

The top release that had an official street date of June 6th was Universal's Renfield, which had to settle for fourth place on both charts. The horror-comedy, which stars Nicholas Hoult as the title character, alongside Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula, opened in April 2023 to mixed reviews and grossed just $17 million domestically and $26 million globally.
