This Week on Blu-ray: May 1-7

For the week of May 1st, Paramount Home Media Distribution will release a Blu-ray for Kyle Marvin's 80 for Brady, starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, Sally Field, Tom Brady and Billy Porter.

Description: Academy Award nominee Lily Tomlin, and winners Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field star in this hilarious and heartfelt comedy, inspired by a true story of friendship and adventure. Four lifelong friends set out on an unforgettable journey to see their hero Tom Brady play in Super Bowl LI and witness one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, discovering that it's never too late to live life to the fullest.

Paramount's Blu-ray of 80 for Brady contains a Dolby Atmos audio track. Extras include extended and deleted scenes, five featurettes and a music video.

Also coming this week from Paramount is a 4K UHD upgrade for Mimi Leder's Deep Impact (1998), starring Robert Duvall, Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood, Vanessa Redgrave, Morgan Freeman and Maximilian Schell. Sourced from a new 4K master, Paramount presents Deep Impact with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio. An included Blu-ray contains the same legacy extras as the 2009 Blu-ray, including filmmaker audio commentary, featurettes and a teaser and trailer for the film.

New this week from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is a Blu-ray for Bobby Farrelly's Champions (2023), starring Woody Harrelson, Kaitlin Olson, Matt Cook, Ernie Hudson, Cheech Marin and Madison Tevlin.

Studio description: Woody Harrelson stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

Universal's Blu-ray of Champions contains a filmmaker audio commentary, twelve deleted and extended scenes, and three featurettes.

Also new from Universal this week is Goran Stolevski's Of an Age, starring Elias Anton, Thom Green, Hattie Hook, Peter Rayias, Milijana Cancar and Donna Dimovski Kantarovski.

Description: Of an Age is set in the summer of 1999 as a 17-year-old Serbian-born, Australian amateur ballroom dancer experiences an unexpected and intense 24-hour romance with a friend's older brother.

New on Blu-ray from Lionsgate Home Entertainment is Herbert James Winterstern's Supercell, starring Alec Baldwin, Anne Heche, Skeet Ulrich, Daniel Diemer, Praya Lundberg and Johnny Wactor.

Description: Baseball-size hail, violent winds, and churning tornadoes make supercells deadly, and when William Brody was a boy, his father – a legendary storm-chaser – was killed by one. Now, the family business belongs to Zane Rogers (Alec Baldwin), a reckless tour operator who sees dollar signs where others see storm clouds. When his destiny arrives in the form of one of the most powerful storms on record, William leaves his mom (Anne Heche) and home behind to team up with his father's ex-partner, Roy Cameron (Skeet Ulrich), barely surviving a tornado yet determined to chase one of nature's most terrifying creations: the bear's cage.

New on Blu-ray from Screen Media is George Gallo's The Ritual Killer, starring Cole Hauser, Morgan Freeman, Julie Lott, Vernon Davis, Paul Sampson and Peter Stormare.

Description: The film follows Detective Boyd (Hauser), who, unable to process the death of his daughter, embarks on the hunt for a serial killer who murders according to a brutal tribal ritual: Muti. The only person who can help Boyd is Professor Mackles (Freeman), an anthropologist who hides an unspeakable secret. The line between sanity and madness thins as Boyd goes deeper into the killer's world.

New this week from Magnolia Pictures is a Blu-ray for Bess Wohl's Baby Ruby, starring Noémie Merlant, Kit Harington, Meredith Hagner, Reed Birney, Jayne Atkinson and Susan Pourfar.

Description: Baby Ruby tells the story of Jo, a successful lifestyle entrepreneur who is happily pregnant, awaiting the arrival of her first child. But soon after Jo welcomes baby Ruby home, something starts to feel off-- even though she's assured it's all perfectly normal. Is something wrong with her? Is something wrong with Ruby? And why are the seemingly perfect neighborhood moms so desperate to befriend her? As Jo fights to protect herself and her baby, she is plunged into a waking fever dream where everyone is a threat and nothing is what it seems. At last, she must confront the truth of her own darkness and contend with the ultimate human sacrifice: The one mothers make for their children.

Finally for new releases, Kino Lorber have a Blu-ray for Giordano Gederlini's On the Edge (Entre la vie et la mort), starring Antonio de la Torre, Marine Vacth, Olivier Gourmet, Fabrice Adde and Nessbeal.

Description: In the pulse-pounding thriller On the Edge, a Spanish subway train operator in Brussels witnesses his estranged son Hugo fall to his death off the edge of a platform. Leo had not seen his son for years but is spurred to investigate the mysterious circumstances of his passing. He discovers that Hugo was involved in a bloody heist, the discovery of which puts Leo in the crosshairs of the police. Leo's skills in tracking and apprehending violent criminals, as it turns out, are not those of a public transit employee.

Kurt Neumann's Island of Lost Men (1939), starring Anna May Wong, J. Carrol Naish, Ernest Truex, Eric Blore, Broderick Crawford and Anthony Quinn. Sourced from a new 2K master, Kino presents Island of Lost Men with a a new audio commentary by entertainment journalist / author Bryan Reesman and Max Evry.

Nick Grinde's King of Chinatown (1939), starring Anna May Wong, Anthony Quinn, Akim Tamiroff, J. Carrol Naish, Sidney Toler and Philip Ahn. Sourced from a new 4K master, Kino presents King of Chinatown with a a new audio commentary by film historian David Del Valle and archivist / film historian Stan Shaffer. Also included is a theatrical trailer, from a new 4K scan of the nitrate elements.

But Kino also have another Blu-ray box set this week, Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XIII (1950-1958), a three-disc box set that contains Blu-rays of:

George Sherman's Spy Hunt (1950), starring Howard Duff, Märta Torén, Philip Friend, Robert Douglas, Philip Dorn and Walter Slezak. Sourced from a new 2K master, Kino presents Spy Hunt with a a new audio commentary by entertainment journalist / author Bryan Reesman and Max Evry.

Abner Biberman's The Night Runner (1957), starring Ray Danton, Colleen Miller, Merry Anders, Willis Bouchey, Harry Jackson and Robert Anderson. Sourced from a new 2K master, Kino presents The Night Runner with a a new audio commentary by film historian Lee Gambin and Dr. Eloise Ross.

Nick Grinde's Step Down to Terror (1958), starring Colleen Miller, Charles Drake, Rod Taylor, Josephine Hutchinson, Jocelyn Brando and Alan Dexter. Sourced from a new 2K master, Kino presents Step Down to Terror with a a new audio commentary by by entertainment journalist / author Bryan Reesman and Max Evry.

Finally from Kino this week is a Blu-ray for Oren Rudavsky's The Treatment (2006), starring Chris Eigeman, Ian Holm, Famke Janssen, Stephanie March, Peter Vack and Griffin Newman. Making its Blu-ray debut, Kino presents The Treatment with deleted scenes, a featurette and a trailer.

Staying with catalog titles, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has two more titles for the Warner Archive Collection. First up is Anthony Mann's Border Incident (1949), starring Ricardo Montalban, George Murphy, Howard Da Silva, James Mitchell, Arnold Moss and Alfonso Bedoya. Sourced from a new 4K scan of the best preservation elements, Warner Archive presents Border Incident with DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono audio. Extras include audio commentary by Dana Polan and the film's theatrical trailer.

Also from Warner Archive is a Blu-ray for Fritz Lang's Clash by Night (1952), starring Barbara Stanwyck, Paul Douglas, Robert Ryan, Marilyn Monroe, J. Carrol Naish and Robert F. Simon. Sourced from a new 4K scan of the original camera negative, Warner Archive presents Clash by Night with DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono audio. Extras include audio commentary by Peter Bogdanovich (featuring archival interview excerpts from director Fritz Lang) and the film's theatrical trailer.

New this week from Arrow Video is a Blu-ray for Basil Dearden's The Assassination Bureau (1969), starring Oliver Reed, Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, Curd Jürgens, Philippe Noiret and Warren Mitchell. Sourced from an HD master provided by Paramount Pictures, Arrow presents The Assassination Bureau with LPCM Mono audio. Extras include audio commentary by Kim Newman and Sean Hogan, a 27-minute featurette with critic, broadcaster and cultural historian Matthew Sweet, the film's trailer and a photo gallery. New this week from Radiance Films is Blu-ray for Luigi Comencini's The Sunday Woman (La donna della domenica) (1975), starring Marcello Mastroianni, Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Louis Trintignant and Aldo Reggiani. Sourced from a new 2K master, Radiance presents The Sunday Woman with a choice of original 1.33:1 or alternate 1.85:1 widescreen presentations, both with Italian: DTS-HD MA 2.0 Mono audio and optional English subtitles. Extras include a new interview with academic and Italian cinema expert Richard Dyer, a new interview with academic and screenwriter Giacomo Scarpelli, archival interviews with Jean-Louis Trintignant and cinematographer Luciano Tovoli and the film's trailer. Also coming this week is a 4K UHD upgrade for Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin) (1987), starring Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin, Peter Falk, Otto Sander, Curt Bois and Hans Martin Stier. Sourced from a 4K master supervised and approved by Wim Wenders, Criterion presents Wings of Desire with German: DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio and optional English subtitles. The audio commentary with Wenders and star Peter Falk is included on the 4K UHD disc, while the Blu-ray is identical to the 2009 release and features the documentary The Angels Among Us (2003), along with several archival interviews, deleted scenes and trailers. Finally this week, Shout Factory have a 4K UHD upgrade for Colin Strause and Greg Strause's Skyline (2010), starring Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, Crystal Reed, Neil Hopkins and David Zayas. Sourced from a new 4K master, Shout Factory present Skyline with DTS-HD MA 2.0 and 5.1 audio tracks and Dolby Vision HDR on the 4K UHD disc. Two filmmaker audio commentaries are included on the 4K UHD disc, while the included remastered Blu-ray also features alternate, deleted and extended scenes, a pre-visualization featurette and trailers.
