Blu-ray Sales: April 16-22: Cocaine Bear Mauls Magic Mike

For the week that ended on April 22nd, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Cocaine Bear topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The horror comedy from director Elizabeth Banks was inspired by a real incident in 1985, where a bear overdosed on cocaine which had been dropped in a forest by drug smugglers. It opened in February to positive reviews and has so far made over $86 million worldwide. This week, Cocaine Bear had an share of 43%.

Debuting in second place on both charts is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Magic Mike's Last Dance. The third film in the Magic Mike series reunited star Channing Tatum with director Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original Magic Mike over a decade ago. Originally announced as a direct-to-streaming release, Warner eventually opted to give the film a theatrical release over the Super Bowl weekend, and so far it has grossed over $26 million domestically and over $56 million globally. This week, Magic Mike's Last Dance sold 35% as many Blu-ray units as Cocaine Bear, with an HD share of 40%.

Dropping to third place is Crunchyroll's Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The twenty-first feature film in the venerable Dragon Ball franchise opened in Japan in June 2022 and topped the box office in its opening weekend. In the US, the film opened two months later and accomplished the same feat, opening to strong reviews and over $21 million on it's way to over $38 million in the United Sates. The film has grossed over $86 million worldwide. This week, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sold 34% as many Blu-ray units as Cocaine Bear, with a perfect HD share of 100%.

Elsewhere on the charts, Warner's Rebel Without a Cause, which received a 4K UHD upgrade this week, came in at No. 4 on the Blu-ray-only chart and handily topped the UHD Market Share chart for the week, with over 99% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Outside the top ten, Universal's Marlowe (2022) debuted at No. 12 on the Blu-ray-only chart. while Kino Lorber's 4K UHD release of 12 Angry Men (1957) came in at No. 19.
