King Solomon's Mines

Description: Before there was Indiana Jones, there was Allan Quartermain, the stalwart hero of H. Rider Haggard's classic 1885 novel that has been filmed four times. Stewart Granger plays Quartermain in this 1950 M-G-M adaptation that was nominated for the Best Picture Oscarฎ, and won the awards for Best Color CInematography and Best Editing. Deborah Kerr plays the plain Englishwoman who hires Quartermain to lead the hunt for her missing husband, even though no safari has ever returned from uninhabited regions their expeditions must cross. Part adventure, part spectacle and filmed amid the awesome splendor and peril of untamed Africa, King Solomon's Mines is a film to treasure.

Description: Greta Garbo stars in one of her greatest roles, as the 17th century Swedish queen fiercely devoted to her country who fights at the head of her army like a man but who loves like a woman--Queen Christina. Crowned queen when she was five years old, the beautiful Christina (Garbo) leads a sexually ambiguous life as she fights to defend her Protestant country against the Counterreformation, dressing as a man and vowing to live as a bachelor. Christina has built her country into a formidable military power, defeating the armies of the Vatican and threatening Russia, and she has agreed to wed the King of Spain--not for love, but to guarantee her country's peace and security. But Christina loses her heart to the King's ambassador (John Gilbert)--and she must choose between her duty to her country and the man she loves. The Courtship of Eddie's Father

Description: Who will be the next Mrs. Corbett? Will it be the chic designer? The Miss Montana Pageant hopeful? The headstrong lady across the hall? It's a big decision for any boy to make for his recently divorced Dad. Like father, like son. You'll like 'em both when renowned child actor Ronny Howard portrays Eddie, and Glenn Ford is his Dad. Vincente Minnelli (Father of the Bride, Gigi) directs, using his flair for vivid colors and balancing the film's humor with the real sense of loss a family feels over a loved one's passing. Shirley Jones, Dina Merrill, and Stella Stevens portray the prospects under Eddie's self-appointed scrutiny. The amiable Courtship continued years later with a same-titled TV series starring Bill Bixby.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • NEW 4K RESTORATION FROM THE ORIGINAL CAMERA NEGATIVE
  • Classic M-G-M Tom and Jerry cartoon "Penthouse Mouse"

The Boy with Green Hair

Description: Made in the hopeful post-World War II era that produced such classics of social conscience as The Search and Intruder in the Dust, this provocative film is a fable for its time -- and ours. It tells the supernatural-tinged story of an orphan who finds a safe haven in small-town America until the day his hair turns green. Then the townfolk turn against him, frightened by the change they cannot understand. A call for tolerance, an inspiring statement that "different" doesn't mean "threatening," The Boy with Green Hair boasts a fine cast (Robert Ryan, Pat O'Brien, Dean Stockwell), a popular theme song (Nature Boy) and the feature-film debut of director Joseph Losey (The Servant, The Go-Between).

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • NEW 4K RESTORATION OF THE FILM FROM THE ORIGINAL TECHNICOLOR NEGATIVES
  • Classic short subject "A Really Important Person" (with Dean Stockwell)
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
Clash by Night

Description: Mae Doyle is a good-time girl, but now times are bad. Weary of too much booze and too many men, she returns to her girlhood home, the fishing village of Monterey, California. There she finds security as the wife of a devoted and dull fisherman - and passion in the arms of his provocative best friend. Film noir master Fritz Lang (The Big Heat, Ministry of Fear) directs four towering talents - Barbara Stanwyck, Paul Douglas, Robert Ryan and rising star Marilyn Monroe - in a stark tale of lives burnished by human emotion and shattered by human failings. Intense and powerfully realistic, Clash by Night (from a Clifford Odets play) is about many towns, many families. Serene on the surface. Roiling with desperation underneath.

Border Incident

Descripton: U.S. Agent Jack Bearnes lies in an open field, shot and beaten. A giant, harrowing machine suddenly roars to life, its blades biting into the earth. Terrified, Bearnes tries to crawl away. But the machine crawls faster. As searing as a shot of tequila down a dust-parched throat, this steely thriller stars Ricardo Montalban and George Murphy as agents from each side of the Mexico-California border. Their job: Catch the thieves, murderers and moneymen who prey on illegal aliens desperate to make a few Americano dollars sweating as farm laborers. Anthony Mann (Winchester '73, The Naked Spur) directs, turning his lens to the beauty and the terror of stark desert wastelands. Blending classic film noir with a surprisingly contemporary plot, Border Incident is a relentless, cutting-edge gem of the genre.
