We're back to the rumor that won't die. After the alleged
spy shots, after the
short-lived placeholder on
Amazon Germany, now an unnamed French games retailer has confirmed that
the Slim PS3 exists and is coming. Not only that, but there is pricing
information: it will retail in France for 299.99 euros, that is, 100 euros less
than the current console.
The anonymous retailer received that information from his wholesalers. There
is no confirmed release date, although the source has been informed that it
would probably be in September.
The actual product details were still up in the air. There wasn't a product code
to process orders, or even a final visual of the console. Likewise, there was
no information as to what would happen with the existing PS3s and if they
would drop in price as well.
The anonymous retailer added that the slim PS3 had been presented as a
limited edition, but he found it hard to believe, as from experience, every time
Sony launches a slim model, it ends up replacing the previous one.
More information is expected at the Gamescom fair that will be held in
Cologne (Germany) on August 19-23.
