Lite-On Conservative about BD Player Market in 2009

Taiwan-based manufacturer of optical disc drives Lite-On IT holds a conservative view of the global market for Blu-ray Disc players in 2009, according to company CEO Guang-chung Chen. The reason is that significant growth in BD player sales requires two things: price drops of BD movie discs and penetration of high-definition TVs.
Costs of player components are still high, but the entry in the chipset manufacturing arena of IC design house MediaTek is expected to help lower such costs, Chen indicated.
