Today on Blu-ray - July 28th

After a number of delays, one of the best mockumentaries of all time arrives on Blu-ray today - 'This is Spinal Tap'. From famed director Rob Reiner, this film tells the story of the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap and their attempt to return to fame with a new album and tour. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer form the most hilarious band ever created, and its wonderful to finally have this timeless comedy on Blu-ray.

The fourth installment in the Fast and the Furious series 'Fast & Furious' hits Blu-ray today with a special iPhone app that allows viewers to access additional special features and even control their Blu-ray Disc player. It will be hard for sci-fi fans to miss the twenty-disc behemoth 'Battlestar Galatica: The Complete Series', which features every episode from the popular series in stunning high definition. Featuring one of the most unique packages in Blu-ray history, its sure to find its way into many homes today.

When one thinks of directors whose unique styles define the films they create, Terry Gilliam is usually one of the first to come to mind. One of his most critically acclaimed and financially successful films - '12 Monkeys' - comes to Blu-ray today. The video transfer leaves something to be desired, unfortunately. The DVD was never sharp, but a detailed restoration would have likely yielded better results - something this Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt film is probably low on the list for. Audio doesn't have the same problem, with a representation that is an obvious audible jump over the DVD.

Blue Underground releases 'Bad Boy Bubby' today, a film that is as shocking as it is endearing. The provided synopsis on the back of the case will do little to prepare you for the images you'll see on the screen, but if you can get past that, there is a good chance its a film you'll enjoy.

Sony brings their latest digibook release 'A River Runs Through It' to Blu-ray today, reminding us that cinematography is as much a part of filmmaking as directing and acting. Its an absolutely wonderful high definition presentation that every drama fan should have as part of their collection. As Staff Reviewer Martin Liebman states in his review, "Sony's Blu-ray release befits the quality of the picture. Featuring a strong 1080p transfer, a fine lossless soundtrack, and a few good supplements, A River Runs Through It comes highly recommended."
