Warner Archive has revealed that it will add five new titles to its Blu-ray catalog in January. They are: Rancho Notorious (1952), The Long, Long Trailer (1953), Our Dancing Daughters (1928), Wife vs. Secretary (1936), and Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939).
Rancho Notorious
Description: In his third and final Western Fritz Lang unsaddles the genre to create a tempestuous cult favorite. Critics have likened the film and its theme of a man twisted by vengeance to a Lang film of a wholly different genre: film noir's the Big Heat.
Vern Haskell (Arthur Kennedy) is pushed to revenge when his fiancée is killed during a general store robbery. Intent on punishing those responsible, Vern manages to find one of the thieves, who is mortally wounded. In his dying words, the man gives Vern a clue to finding the others. Continuing his quest, Vern travels to the hideout -- a ranch operated by Altar Keane (Marlene Dietrich), a former saloon singer. By fooling an outlaw (Mel Ferrer), Vern makes his way into their inner circle.
Wife vs. Secretary
Description: Though magazine publisher Van Stanhope (Clark Gable) and his wife, Linda (Myrna Loy), are contentedly married, Van's meddling mother (May Robson) doesn't trust his attractive young secretary, Helen "Whitey" Wilson (Jean Harlow). When Whitey helps Van undertake a top-secret plan to purchase a potentially profitable magazine from under the nose of a rival publisher, causing the pair to work long hours alone together, Linda's sudden jealousy almost scuttles both the deal and their marriage.
Goodbye, Mr. Chips
Description: Young schoolteacher Charles Edward Chipping (Robert Donat) imposes strict discipline on his young charges at a Victorian-era English public school, becoming a fearsome presence on the campus grounds. But the love of spirited young suffragette Katherine Ellis (Greer Garson) brings the Latin instructor out of his shell and makes him a beloved campus institution into the 20th century and through the shattering violence of World War I. The film is based on the best-selling novel by James Hilton.
Our Dancing Daughters
Description: In the midst of the Jazz Age, two friends wrestle with love and liberation. Diana (Joan Crawford) has a flamboyant personality that masks a sweet nature, while Ann (Anita Page) is outwardly reserved, but coldly manipulative on the inside. When Diana sets her sights on the rich, debonair Ben (Johnny Mack Brown), Ann gets competitive, and successfully steals Ben away from her. It's only after they've married that Ben realizes what a cruel person Ann is, and that his heart really belongs to Diana.
The Long, Long Trailer
Description: Nicholas Collini (Desi Arnaz) has to travel for his job as an engineer -- so his fiancée, Tacy (Lucille Ball), suggests that rather than buy a house after their wedding, they invest in a motor home so they can see the country together. But the aggravations of life with nosy trailer park neighbors and the dangers of piloting an enormous trailer across narrow country roads soon take their toll on the happy couple, putting their young marriage in turmoil.
