For the week that ended on October 22nd, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Bullet Train topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut. The action comedy from David Leitch saw Brad Pitt star as a former assassin who must retrieve a briefcase from a Japanese bullet train boarded by several shady characters. Released in August,
Bullet Train received mixed reviews but topped the box office with over $30 million in its opening weekend. So far, it has a global total of over $239 million. This week,
Bullet Train had an HD share of 68% and 28% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to second place on both charts for the first time is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Thor: Love and Thunder. The fourth film for the Asgardian god of thunder is the 29th in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also featured the return of Portman as Jane Porter. Shot in Sydney Australia in 2021,
Thor: Love and Thunder opened in July 2022 to mixed reviews, but still managed to top the box office in its opening weekend with over $144 million. So far, the film has grossed over $343 million domestically and over $760 million globally, making it currently the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2022. This week,
Thor: Love and Thunder sold 27% as many Blu-ray units as
Bullet Train, with an HD share of 55% and 19% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons. The direct-to-video animated adventure based on the DC Comics characters sold 26% as many Blu-ray units as
Bullet Train, with a perfect HD share of 100% and 20% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Shout Factory's 4K UHD release of
The Return of the Living Dead propelled that film into the top ten Blu-rays at No. 5, with 99% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Bodies Bodies Bodies landed at No. 7 on the Blu-ray-only chart, with an HD share of 74% and 22% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, which was exclusive to Best Buy.
