For the week of August 15th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release a 4K UHD and Blu-ray for Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World: Dominion, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum. The third film the Jurassic World trilogy (and sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise) began filming in February 2020 for a June 2021 release. However, in March 2020, filming was put on hold when the coronavirus pandemic struck much of the Western world. Filming would eventually resume in July 2020 with the aid of an entire hotel that Universal rented for the production to use as a "bubble", making Jurassic World: Dominion one of the first films to resume production after the pandemic began. Filming was eventually completed in November 2020 and post-production meant that it was not completed until November 2021. Along with the return of Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm, The film also marked the return of actors Sam Neil and Laura Dern as paleontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, the two leads in the original Jurassic Park, making Jurassic World: Dominion the first time in almost thirty years that all three characters had been in the same film. Despite this casting coup, reviews for the film have been largely negative, but that hasn't stopped it from grossing over $373 million domestically and an impressive $601 million internationally, for a grand total of over $954 million worldwide so far.
With this being one of its top franchises, Universal has several options for home video editions of Jurassic World: Dominion. All discs include object-based DTS:X audio (with a DTS-HD MA 7.1 core) and the 4K UHD disc additionally includes Dolby Vision HDR. The other big news is that both the theatrical version and a new extended cut are included, with the latter containing 14 additional minutes of content. Extras include the Jurassic World short film Battle at Big Rock, a 45-minute making of called Dinosaurs Among Us and featurettes. In addition to standard packaging, a SteelBook edition and two six-film box sets, the Jurassic World: Ultimate Collection 4K (1993-2022) and the limited Jurassic World: Ultimate Collection 4K Giftset (1993-2022) will also be available.
