Warner Archive will add five new titles to its Blu-ray catalog this September. They are: Rachel, Rachel (1968), Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940), King Kong (1933), Young Sheldon: The Complete Fifth Season (2021-2022) and Lucifer: The Sixth & Final Season (2022).

Rachel, Rachel

Description: New England schoolteacher Rachel Cameron's life is small and safe. Too small and too safe for a warmhearted woman who wants to do something - anything - to keep from slipping into spinsterhood.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward joined their stellar talents on this powerfully human movie, he debuting as a director and she giving one of her hallmark screen performances. Both won New York Film Critics and Golden Globe awards for their work, and the film garnered four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The Newmans teamed afterward on other masterful films (The Glass Menagerie, Mr. & Mrs. Bridge, Empire Falls). But for tenderness, insight and artistry, none surpasses Rachel, Rachel.

STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 6.

Abe Lincoln in Illinois

Description: Among the most masterful matchups of actor and role in screen history in this stirring film of Robert E. Sherwood's beloved play taking a thoroughly human look at the early years of our 16th president, with all his frailties and strength of character.

Best Actor Oscar nominee Raymond Massey (who originated the role on stage) wonderfully plays the future Great Emancipator in a chronicle of his backwoods childhood through his first romance with Ann Rutledge (Mary Howard) to his phenomenal rise to President Elect, besting the great orator Stephen Douglas (Gene Lockhart). Ruth Gordon also does memorable work as the driven, ambitious Mary Todd Lincoln, whose vision of Abe's leadership destiny will not be denied by anyone - including her often reticent husband. There's also no denying the enduring emotional power of this simple, magnificent movie.

STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 13.

King Kong

Description: Actress Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) and director Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) travel to the Indian Ocean to do location shoots for Denham's new jungle picture. Along the way, the actress meets and falls for rugged First Mate John Driscoll (Bruce Cabot). Upon arriving at a mysterious island, Ann is taken hostage by natives who prepare her as a sacrifice to the enormous ape Kong who rules over their jungle. But when Ann is rescued and Kong is captured, the real trouble begins.

Young Sheldon: The Complete Fifth Season

Description: For young Sheldon Cooper, being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn't always helpful in East Texas. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father struggles as a high school football coach and father to a boy he doesn't understand. Sheldon's mother fiercely protects her son who just doesn't fit in. Sheldon's older brother does the best he can in high school, but his younger brother is already in college. Sheldon's twin sister remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth.
