For the week that ended on July 2nd, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore took the top spot on both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The third film in the
Fantastic Beasts film series and eleventh in the Wizarding World franchise opened in April 2022 to mixed reviews. Although it topped the box office in its opening weekend with some $42 million and an eventual haul of over $95 million domestically and $401 million globally, those totals are the lowest for any film in the Wizarding World franchise, with the caveat that the film was delayed several times and opened during the coronavirus pandemic. This week,
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore had an HD share of 62% and 15% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Remaining in second place on both charts is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
The Bad Guys. The DreamWorks Animation film, which concerns a group of anthropomorphic criminal animals who pretend to reform their ways, opened to positive reviews and topped the box office in its opening weekend back in March. So far, the film has grossed over $236 million worldwide. This week,
The Bad Guys sold 34% as many Blu-ray units as
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, with an HD share of 49% and 8% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to third place on both charts is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Morbius. One of several Marvel Comics properties connected to Spider-Man,
Morbius was an attempt to provide the titular character, who is a Vampire-like villain in the comics, with the opportunity to become an antihero. Unfortunately,
Morbius, which saw various delays from 2020 all the way to its eventual release in April 2022, has been something of a failure thus far, making less than $74 million domestically and only $136 million worldwide on a budget of $75 million or more, and receiving largely negative reviews. Still, that didn't stop Sony from issuing multiple editions for the film's home video release, including retailer exclusives at Best Buy, Target and Walmart stores. This week,
Morbius sold 25% as many Blu-ray units as
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, with an HD share of 55% and 14% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Arrow Video's new remastered Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases of
True Romance pushed that film into the top ten on the Blu-ray-only chart, at No. 5. The release also handily topped the UHD Market Share chart for the week, with over 91% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
