For the week that ended on June 11th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
The Northman topped the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The latest film from director Robert Eggers, who is known for his previous two horror features
The Witch (2015) and
The Lighthouse (2019), tells a story based on Viking legends. Released in most markets in April 2022, the film earned critical praise and while it may not have set the box office on fire, it's domestic take of $34 million and global haul of over $68 million so far represent by far the biggest success of Eggers' young directorial career. This week,
The Northman had an HD share of 63% and 20% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to second place in its third week is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
The Batman. One of many films featuring the iconic DC Comics character to be produced in the last two decades,
The Batman serves to reboot the character's solo adventure films, this time in his early years of crime fighting, when he must team up with Lieutenant Jim Gordon to solve a series of murders being committed by The Riddler. Released in March 2022 after being delayed from 2021 thanks to the coronavirus pandemic,
The Batman received critical acclaim and grossed over $134 million on its domestic opening weekend. So far, the film has grossed over $770 million worldwide, becoming the the second-highest-grossing film of 2022. This week,
The Batman sold 86% as many Blu-ray units as
The Northman, with an HD share of 66% and 20% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Again in the top three on the Blu-ray-only chart is Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Top Gun. The classic 1986 action film had been slowly rising in the Blu-ray charts as anticipation mounted for its long-awaited and then long-delayed sequel,
Top Gun: Maverick, which finally hit theaters at the end of May, some 36 years after the original film. This week,
Top Gun sold 57% as many Blu-ray units as
The Northman, with an HD share of 44% and 11% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Paramount's
The Contractor debuted at No. 7 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while SteelBook 4K UHD releases of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Lawrence of Arabia and
The Bridge on the River Kwai propelled the David Lean epics to No. 8 and No. 15 on the Blu-ray-only chart and straight to the top of the UHD Market Share chart, with over 99% and 97% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Lawrence of Arabia had previously been exclusive to the
Columbia Classics Collection: Volume 1 4K UHD box set, which came out in June 2020.
