For the week that ended on June 4th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
The Batman again topped the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. One of many films featuring the iconic DC Comics character to be produced in the last two decades,
The Batman serves to reboot the character's solo adventure films, this time in his early years of crime fighting, when he must team up with Lieutenant Jim Gordon to solve a series of murders being committed by The Riddler. Released in March 2022 after being delayed from 2021 thanks to the coronavirus pandemic,
The Batman received critical acclaim and grossed over $134 million on its domestic opening weekend. So far, the film has grossed over $770 million worldwide, becoming the the second-highest-grossing film of 2022. This week,
The Batman had an HD share of 67% and 20% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Remaining in second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Uncharted took the top spot on both charts for the second week in a row. Released just weeks after the actor's third
Spider-Man film for Sony,
Uncharted topped the box office over the President's Day holiday weekend with over $51 million, prompting Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman to declare the film--which is adapted from the video game series of the same name--to be the beginning of "a new hit movie franchise". In total, the film has grossed over $148 million domestically and over $401 million globally. This week,
Uncharted sold 37% as many Blu-ray units as
The Batman, with an HD share of 55% and 14% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Rounding out the top three on the Blu-ray-only chart is Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Top Gun. The classic 1986 action film had been slowly rising in the Blu-ray charts as anticipation mounted for its long-awaited and then long-delayed sequel,
Top Gun: Maverick, which finally hit theaters at the end of May, some 36 years after the original film. This week,
Top Gun sold 34% as many Blu-ray units as
The Batman, with an HD share of 41% and 11% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts, Paramount's new 4K UHD of
The Untouchables, released in time for its 25th anniverasary, launched the film to No. 5 on the Blu-ray-only chart, while it also easily topped the UHD Market Share chart for the week, with 99% of units sold from the 4K UHD format. Meanwhile, Sony's new Blu-ray release of
The Boys: Season 1 & 2 Collection (2019-2020) landed at No. 14. Finally, the Criterion Collection release of Billy Wilder's
Double Indemnity brought the 1944 film noir classic into the top twenty, at No. 16, while Criterion's 4K UHD version took the second spot on the UHD Market Share chart, with 79% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
