Sandpiper Pictures is preparing Blu-ray releases of Fred Schepisi's
The Russia House (1990) and Richard Loncraine's
Richard III (1995). Currently, the two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on June 14.
The Russia House
Description: Author John le Carré's novel "The Russia House" is brought to life by director Fred Schepisi (Six Degrees of Separation) and screenwriter Tom Stoppard (Empire of the Sun) in this political thriller set during the peak of the Cold War. Sean Connery (Goldfinger) and Michelle Pfeiffer (The Fabulous Baker Boys) play spies and lovers in a game of cat and mouse to prevent a highly sensitive manuscript from falling into the wrong hands. A chorus of bureaucrats are vividly brought to life by Roy Scheider (Jaws), James Fox (The Remains of the Day), John Mahoney (Moonstruck) and, in a scene-stealing turn, Ken Russell (Women in Love).
Richard III
Description: Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings) reprises his Royal National Theatre stage triumph in director Richard Loncraine's (Wimbledon) screen adaptation of William Shakespeare's tale of the monstrous royal, Richard III, from a screenplay co-written by McKellen and Loncraine. Featuring a stellar supporting cast that includes Annette Bening, Maggie Smith, Robert Downey Jr., Kristen Scott Thomas and John Wood, the Bard's original Elizabethan tale of villainy is reimagined and set within a 1930s war-torn fascist monarchy.
