For the week that ended on January 15th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Dune (2021) topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. Previously adapted for the screen in 1984 by David Lynch, Villeneuve's adaptation of the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert was made over a three-year period and intended to be a late 2020 release. However, once the coronavirus pandemic struck, the film, which has a $165 million budget, had to be moved. Ultimately, Dune would be released in a staggered international rollout in September and October 2021. When it opened domestically, the film topped the box office for two weeks, pulling in $41 million on its opening weekend and ultimately grossing over $107 million, with a global box office of over $397 million so far. This week, Dune had an HD share of 73% and 25% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Remaining in second place on both charts is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Halloween Kills. The sequel to Green's Halloween (2018) is a direct continuation of events from that film and was initially intended to be released in October 2020, but was delayed an entire year due to the coronavirus pandemic. On its opening weekend, the film topped the box office with a huge $50.4 million, easily the best opening weekend of the pandemic for an R-rated film. Unfortunately, reviews for the film were mixed to negative, but ultimately, the film grossed over $92 million domestically and over $131 million worldwide on a budget of only $20 million. This week, Halloween Kills sold 40% as many Blu-ray units as Dune, with an HD share of 54% and 13% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Debuting in third place on the Blu-ray chart is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Last Night in Soho. Edgar Wright's psychological horror film, about an aspiring fashion designer who moves to London and develops a supernatural connection with a nightclub singer who lived in the swinging sixties, was originally set for a 2020 release, but was delayed over a year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Ultimately, although the film only achieved a modest worldwide box office take of about $23 million, it received generally positive reviews. It was also the final film for actors Margaret Nolan and Diana Rigg, who both passed away in 2020. This week, Last Night in Soho sold 32% as many Blu-ray units as Dune, with an impressive HD share of 81% and 35% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Blu-ray of Candyman III: Day of the Dead debuted at No. 8 on the Blu-ray chart, with an HD share of over 99%, The film is part of Lionsgate's Vestron Video Collector's Series.
