Ritek, CMC to Expand Writeable BD Capacity

Taiwan-based manufacturers of blank optical discs Ritek and CMC are going to expand its production capacity of writeable Blu-ray Discs dramatically in the second half of the year. Ritek will double its capacity to 2 million discs per month, whereas CMC will add two production lines to bring its total to three.

Ritek's capacity expansion is to meet increased OEM orders for BD discs mainly from Fujifilm and Maxell, and will reportedly make Ritek the second largest manufacturer of writeable BDs, behind Sony. CMC is currently a BD disc OEM for Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical.
