Scorpion Releasing has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray Peter Watkins' film
Privilege (1967), starring Paul Jones, Jean Shrimpton, Max Bacon, Jeremy Child, and James Cossins. The release will be available for purchase in February.
Label description: From the maker of the legendary banned BBC production
The War Game, this look at a chilling future takes place in an England where a repressive government uses pop idol Steven Shorter (Paul Jones of the legendary group Manfred Mann) to control the masses. However, the demands start to take a massive toll on Steven, especially when he becomes attached to the beautiful Vanessa (model and Swinging London icon Jean Shrimpton).
Unavailable for years in the United States,
Privilege will be presented in a high-definition transfer with a new audio commentary by film historian Daniel Kremer, recently heard on such titles as The Ipcress File and Get Crazy. Shockingly relevant today, this "uncanny prediction of how mass media could be used as such effective propaganda" (BFI) is a rock-fueled blend of satire and a cautionary tale whose time has come.
