For the week of October 18th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release James Gunn's The Suicide Squad (2021), starring Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, and Sylvester Stallone. A follow-up to the 2016 film Suicide Squad, Gunn's film aimed to incorporate some of the previous film's characters in an R-rated adventure with new recruits. While the result was greeted with a positive critical reception, The Suicide Squad opened in July and August to disappointing box office results, grossing just over $167 million worldwide against a budget of $185 million. Warner's discs include Dolby Atmos audio, while the 4K UHD additionally features HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Extras include a gag reel, deleted and extended scenes, featurettes and director's commentary, with select extras ported to the 4K UHD disc as well. Reatailer exclusives include a Best Buy Exclusive 4K UHD SteelBook, a Target Exclusive Blu-ray with Collectible Character Cards and a Walmart Exclusive Blu-ray with Lenticular Cover.
Also from Warner this week is a hotly anticipated Blu-ray for Superman: The Complete Animated Series (1996-2000). The six-disc set will include all 54 episodes, in their original 1.33:1 aspect ratio, with their original stereo audio tracks in DTS-HD MA 2.0. Also aboard is a new featurette, Superman: Timeless Icon, as well as select archival extras.
New this week from Sony on 4K UHD and Blu-ray is Rodo Sayagues' Don't Breathe 2, starring Stephen Lang, Bobby Schofield, and Brendan Sexton III. Studio description: In the thrilling sequel to the breakout hit, DON'T BREATHE 2 reprises Norman Nordstrom (Stephen Lang), who has been hiding out for several years in an isolated cabin. He lives with a young girl and has recreated the family stolen from him by a drunk driver. Their quiet life together is shattered when a group of unseemly criminals kidnaps her and forces Norman to tap into even darker and more creative instincts in an effort to save her.
Sony's 4K UHD release for Don't Breathe 2 contains Dolby Atmos audio. Extras include commentaries with the filmmakers, an alternate ending and featurettes.
Also from Sony this week is a 4K UHD box set for Underworld: 5-Movie Collection (2203-2016). The ten-disc set features all five films on 4K UHD with HDR and Dolby Atmos audio mixes. Additionally, both the theatrical and extended cuts of Underworld are included, along with hours of extras across the 4K UHD and included Blu-ray discs.
New from Lionsgate this week is a Blu-ray for Sofia Coppola's On the Rocks, starring Bill Murray, Rashida Jones, Marlon Wayans, Jenny Slate, and Jessica Henwick. Synopsis: The story of a young mother who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father on an adventure through New York. In this comedy about aging, marriage, and the tenuous bond between parents and grown children, New York author and married mother-of-two Laura has become suspicious that her career-driven husband may be having an affair with a coworker, a speculation encouraged by her caddish, bon vivant father.
Also from Lionsgate this week is another entry in the Vestron Video Collector's Series, Lance Hool's Steel Dawn (1987), starring Patrick Swayze, Lisa Niemi, Anthony Zerbe, Christopher Neame, and Brion James. Synopsis: "Whoever controls the water controls the valley," proclaims the evil Damnil in this cult favorite starring Patrick Swayze as Nomad, an ex-soldier roaming the desert wastes of a war-ravaged world. When his mentor is killed before he can take the job of peacemaker in the town of Meridian, Nomad lends the townspeople his fighting skills instead, gaining the trust of war widow Kasha and her son, Jux. But after Damnil learns of a secret water supply flowing under Kasha's farm, his thirst turns truly murderous in this dystopian '80s gem featuring Anthony Zerbe and Brion James.
Lionsgate's extras for Steel Dawn include a director's audio commentary, interviews with the crew, an archival making of featurette, a stills gallery and a trailer.
New this week from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is a Blu-ray for Tom McCarthy's Stillwater, starring Matt Damon, Camille Cottin, Abigail Breslin, Deanna Dunagan, and William Nadylam. Official description: A dramatic thriller directed by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy and starring Matt Damon, Stillwater follows an American oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter, in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system, Bill builds a new life for himself in France as he makes it his personal mission to exonerate his daughter.
Universal's extras for Stillwater consist of three featurettes.
Also from Universal this week is a long-awaited Blu-ray box set for The Incredible Hulk: The Complete Series (1977-1982). The 19-disc set contains 80 episodes across five seasons and two TV films.
