Blu-ray Sales: September 19-25: F9 Speeds to the Top of the Charts

For the week that ended on September 18th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's F9: The Fast Saga AKA Fast and Furious 9 topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The ninth main film in the franchise was originally planned for a 2019 release, but was delayed several times, first by the release of a spin-off film, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and then by the coronavirus pandemic. to where the film did not get a release until May 2021 internationally and June 2021 domestically. In spite of mixed reviews, the film broke pandemic box office records and has pulled in $173 million domestically and an astounding $543 million internationally, with its $716 million worldwide total making it the second highest-grossing film of 2021, behind only China's Hi, Mom. This week, F9: The Fast Saga had an HD share of 59% and 16% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Dropping to second place in its second week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Black Widow. The 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Widow was to be Johansson's first solo adventure after having portrayed the title character in several MCU films dating back to Iron Man 2 in 2010. This week, Black Widow sold 45% as many Blu-ray units as F9: The Fast Saga, with an HD share of 65% and 21% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Debuting in third place on both charts is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Cruella. One of several recent live-action films inspired by Disney's past animated classics, Cruella was one of the first films to receive a red carpet premiere since the start of the pandemic, when it finally opened on May 28, 2021. That weekend, it came in second place behind A Quiet Place Part II, eventually finishing its theatrical run with over $86 million domestically and over $233 million worldwide. This week, Cruella sold 41% as many Blu-ray units as F9: The Fast Saga, with an impressive HD share of 75% and 16% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Elsewhere on the charts, it was a great week for 4K UHD Blu-ray as both Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's A Clockwork Orange and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Unbreakable entered into the Blu-ray chart at No. 6 and No. 8, respectively, with both titles selling almost entirely from their new 4K UHD editions.
