For the week that ended on August 21st, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. This sequel to the 2017 film
The Hitman's Bodyguard was originally set for an August 2020 release, before the coronavirus pandemic saw it being pushed to August 2021 and then finally being pushed up to a June 2021 release. On its opening weekend, it topped the box office, on its way to over $38 million domestically, and a global total of over $69 million so far. This week,
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard had an HD share of 63% and 17% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to second place on the Blu-ray-only chart, but topping the overall packaged media chart, is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Luca topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The latest film from Pixar Animation Studios,
Luca is about a sea monster boy who can take human form on land and has adventures with a new best friend on the Italian Riviera. It was originally planned for a theatrical release, but like Pixar's
Soul before it,
Luca saw its domestic release cancelled by Disney due to the ongoing pandemic, so that in June, the film went to Disney's streaming service instead. Internationally,
Luca did open in select markets, where so far, it has grossed just $22 million. This week,
Luca sold 28% as many Blu-ray units as
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, with an HD share of 48% and 9% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping two spots to third place on the Blu-ray chart is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two. The animated film picks up where the June release of
Part One left off to complete the story, which is based on a 13-issue series of comics published in 1996-1997 and eventually collected into a graphic novel. Despite the announcement of a combined edition of the film to be released on 4K UHD, these split Blu-ray releases have done well, with
Part One taking third place on the Blu-ray-only chart back in June and against the second week of Warner's own
Godzilla vs. Kong and the new release of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
Nobody. This week,
Batman: The Long Halloween - Part Two sold 22% as many Blu-ray units as
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, with an HD share of 72%.
One other bright spot this week is for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, whose 35th anniversary re-release of
Labyrinth 4K topped the 4K UHD chart with 94% of units sold from the 4K UHD format, enough to come in at No. 9 on the Blu-ray chart, as well.
