Warner Archive Announces September Releases

Warner Archive has announced its September batch of Blu-ray releases. They are: Straight Time (1978), The Naked Spur (1953), The Window (1949), Santa Fe Trail (1940), and A Night at the Opera (1935).

Straight Time

Synopsis: A career criminal, Max Dembo (Dustin Hoffman) is determined to go straight after his latest stint in prison. He takes a mindless job in a cannery, patiently endures the abuse of his pompous parole officer, Earl (M. Emmet Walsh), and begins a romance with a sympathetic girl from the employment office, Jenny (Theresa Russell). But when Earl erroneously busts Jack for drug abuse, the ex-con cracks, assaulting Earl and setting off on a reckless crime spree.

Santa Fe Trail

Synopsis: After graduating from West Point, Jeb Stuart (Errol Flynn) and George Custer (Ronald Reagan) are both stationed to Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. Once there, they find that the violent abolitionist John Brown (Raymond Massey) has laid waste to the state, killing anyone who gets in the way of his anti-slavery crusade. While the duo must work together to battle the murderous revolutionary, they also come to blows over their competing love for Kit Carson Holliday (Olivia de Havilland).

STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 14.

The Window

Synopsis: When young Tommy (Bobby Driscoll) sneaks out of his bedroom and onto the fire escape of his tenement building, he sees two neighbors, Joe (Paul Stewart) and Jean Kellerson (Ruth Roman), murder a sailor (Richard Benedict). Tommy, who has been reprimanded before by his parents for telling phony stories, informs his mother (Barbara Hale) of the crime, but she does not believe him. After his mother leaves to attend to a sick relative, Tommy worries that the Kellersons will try to kill him, too.

STREET DATE: SEPTEMBER 21.

The Naked Spur

Synopsis: Howard Kemp (James Stewart) has been tracking killer Ben Vandergroat (Robert Ryan) for a long time. In the Colorado Rockies, he teams up with prospector Jesse Tate (Millard Mitchell) and former Union soldier Roy Anderson (Ralph Meeker). Thinking Kemp is a sheriff, they agree to help for a small fee. When they catch Vandergroat, he tells them Kemp is pursuing a $5,000 bounty. After demanding equal shares, the uneasy alliance heads for Kansas as Vandergroat tries to turn them against each other.

A Night at the Opera

Synopsis: The Marx Brothers run amuck in the world of opera when Otis B. Driftwood (Groucho Marx) meets aspiring singer Ricardo (Allan Jones), who is determined to win the love of fellow performer Rosa (Kitty Carlisle). Aided by Fiorello (Chico Marx) and Tomasso (Harpo Marx), Otis attempts to unite the young couple, but faces opposition from the preening star Lassparri (Walter Woolf King), who also has his sights on Rosa. Traveling from Italy to New York, Otis and friends rally to try and win the day.
