For the week that ended on July 24th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Mortal Kombat (2021) topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts for the second week in a row. Based on the immensely popular series of fighting video games,
Mortal Kombat is the third live-action adaptation after two previous films in 1995 and 1997. This 2021 version was one of the first films to debut both theatrically and on Warner's HBO Max streaming service back in April, eventually finishing its domestic run with over $42 million and a global total of over $83 million. This week,
Mortal Kombat had an HD share of 61%, with 15% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
In second place on both charts is Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Spiral: From the Book of Saw. The ninth film in the
Saw franchise,
Spiral stars Rock and Jackson as policeman who must hunt a copycat of the Jigsaw killer. Produced by members of the original creative team, including James Wan and Leigh Whannell,
Spiral was originally to be released in May 2020, before it was delayed a year to May 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The film made just over $23 million domestically and over $37 million worldwide thus far. This week,
Spiral: From the Book of Saw sold 88% as many units as
Mortal Kombat, with an HD share of 69%, with 33% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to third place on both charts is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Wrath of Man. An adaptation of the 2004 French film
Le Convoyeur (AKA
Cash Truck),
Wrath of Man was directed by Guy Ritchie and marks his fourth collaboration with actor Jason Statham, here starring as a new security guard for an armored truck company, who foils a robbery attempt with expert skills, raising questions about his true identity and motives. opened in May after being delayed from January due to the pandemic. It made $27 million domestically, topping the box office in its first weekend. Internationally, it has been on a staggered worldwide rollout, but so far, it has made over $100 million worldwide. This week,
Wrath of Man sold 37% as many units as
Mortal Kombat, with an HD share of 54%.
