For the week that ended on July 10th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Godzilla vs. Kong once again topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. The long-awaited action showdown brought escapist fun to a formerly desolate theatrical marketplace and made over $100 million at the domestic box office on its way to over $459 million worldwide. To that end, when it came time for the film's home video release, Warner obliged fans with a bevy of format options, including a
Blu-ray 3D edition. This week,
Godzilla vs. Kong again had an HD share of 58%, with 13% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Remaining in second place on both charts this week is Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's
Nobody. The action film stars Bob Odenkirk as a seemingly ordinary man who becomes the victim of a home invasion, which triggers a buried past life of rage and violence in him. The film was originally to be released in the summer of 2020, but was delayed several times due to the pandemic. It finally opened in March 2021 topping the box office in its first weekend and receiving positive reviews. This week,
Nobody sold 44% as many units as
Godzilla vs. Kong, with an HD share of 52% and 12% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Returning to third place on the Blu-ray chart this week is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Raya and the Last Dragon. The first film for Walt Disney Animation Studios since 2018,
Raya and the Last Dragon was set for a theatrical release last year, but the pandemic pushed it to March 2021. Nevertheless, it topped the box office in its first three weeks, eventually bringing in over $54 million domestically and over $120 million so far globally. This week,
Raya and the Last Dragon sold 32% as many units as
Godzilla vs. Kong, with an HD share of 47% and 8% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Elsewhere on the charts however, an ongoing Criterion Collection sale clearly made a big impact, as Criterion Blu-rays of
Memories of Murder,
Mirror,
Fast Times at Ridgemont High and
Bringing Up Baby comprised the bottom of the top ten Blu-ray sellers and even Criterion's seven-disc
World of Wong Kar Wai box set came in at No. 13.
And congratulations to the notorious Universal Pictures title
Howard the Duck, which almost managed to crack the top ten thanks to a new 4K UHD release,
