For the week that ended on June 19th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Godzilla vs. Kong smashed its way to the top of both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts, ending the four week reign of Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Raya and the Last Dragon, which slipped on both charts. The long-awaited action showdown brought escapist fun to a formerly desolate theatrical marketplace and made over $100 million at the domestic box office on its way to over $442 million worldwide. To that end, when it came time for the film's home video release, Warner obliged fans with a bevy of format options, including a
Blu-ray 3D edition. Overall, the film moved almost
ten times more units than its closest challenger. This week,
Godzilla vs. Kong had an HD share of 66%, with 22% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Making a surprise leap to second place on the Blu-ray chart is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's
Wonder Woman 1984. The superhero sequel was last in this position almost
two months ago, back in early May. Like last week's second place Blu-ray, Paramount Home Media Distribution's
Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection,
Wonder Woman 1984 also came in third place on the overall packaged media chart. This week,
Wonder Woman 1984 sold 11% as many units as
Godzilla vs. Kong, with an HD share of 74% and 18% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
Dropping to third place on the Blu-ray chart is Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Raya and the Last Dragon. The first film for Walt Disney Animation Studios since 2018,
Raya and the Last Dragon was set for a theatrical release last year, but the pandemic pushed it to March 2021. Nevertheless, it topped the box office in its first three weeks, eventually bringing in over $45 million domestically and over $107 million so far globally. Disney's home media releases also included
Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook and
Target Exclusive Digipack editions. This week,
Raya and the Last Dragon sold 10% as many units as
Godzilla vs. Kong, with an HD share of 59% and 13% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.
