Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that The Weinstein Company, beset by financial problems, is scrambling to secure the money to promote the theatrical release of Quentin Tarantino's '
Inglourious Basterds'. More importantly for us, Universal is now cited as having the domestic home video rights to the movie (including Blu-ray), much to the chagrin of Genius Products.
This is bad news for The Weinstein Company, of course, but good news for Blu-ray enthusiasts, because TWC's support of BD has dwindled recently. '
Vicky Cristina Barcelona' was released day-and-date with DVD; '
The Reader' was released two weeks after the DVD; and 'Outlander' and 'Fanboys' haven't received a BD release at all.
On the other hand, with Universal a day-and-date BD release of 'Basterds' is all but guaranteed.
