Vinegar Syndrome has announced its March slate of Blu-ray releases. They are: Last Gasp (1995), Death Promise (1977), Rush Week (1989), and Furies Sexuelles (1976).
Death Promise
Synopsis: The residents of a dilapidated New York tenement building are being harassed and threatened by Iguana Realty, the dummy corporation which owns the land, in an effort to force them out of their homes. But when karate master Charley's father is murdered by a group of thugs hired by the landlords, he decides to take matters into his own hands. Enlisting the help of his best friend, fellow fighter Speedy, and driven by a desire for vengeance, they soon develop a plan to murder each board member of Iguana Realty. However, what they don't realize is that their final target is someone much closer to home...
A genre blending grindhouse classic that perfectly embodies the mid 70s, NYC lensed exploitation film aesthetic, Robert Warmflash's DEATH PROMISE oozes sublime 70s sleaze from beginning to end. Synopsis: Toni Daniels is an ambitious young journalist working for her college newspaper. Tired of covering the same boring stories as her peers, Toni becomes intrigued by the recent disappearances of several female students and believes that they may be linked to an on-campus murder that happened the previous year during the college's raucous Rush Week. Despite being certain that something terrible has been happening on campus, no one she talks to is willing to admit that the disappearances are cause for concern. Synopsis: Alain Payet was one of the first, and most controversial, auteurs to take full advantage of France's legalization of hardcore sex in the cinema. Eschewing the superficial fluff pieces being directed by his peers, Payet's films delved into the strange and perverse underbelly of Parisian sex culture. Presented here are his two earliest hardcore ventures, both produced by frequent Jess Franco collaborator, Robert de Nesle.
Marie-Madeleine is a shopgirl who, at the persuasion of her lecherous boss, has begun exchanging sexual favors with the store's most affluent clientele. After being fired for refusing one of her customer's advances, she finds solace in a squalid bar, which turns out to be a haven for prostitutes. Deciding to try her hand at the profession once again, but this time on her own terms, Marie is quickly immersed into a world of increasingly debauched and hedonistic experiences which soon threaten to destroy her in body and soul. A fittingly seedy and well directed drama, FURIES SEXUELLES (aka Les Marie-Madeleine) is presented here in its totally uncensored original director's cut, completely unseen since 1976. (106 min)
