We're now in the second week of the Father's Day push, which means a lot more catalog titles to add to your Blu-ray collection. This week MGM is the studio who can boast the most, with seven guy-friendly titles including '
Dark Blue', '
The Graduate', '
Navy Seals', '
Out of Time', '
Road House', '
Rollerball', and '
Walking Tall'.
If you have an itch for some new material, Paramount is releasing the Oscar-nominated '
Revolutionary Road' and Daniel Craig's '
Defiance' on Blu-ray. Staff Reviewer Kenneth Brown states that the Blu-ray release of 'Revolutionary Road' is "an excellent Blu-ray release that features a striking video transfer, a stirring TrueHD audio track, and an impressive supplemental package."
Sony also brings some catalog titles to Blu-ray today, including '
Air Force One' - one of the top selling DVDs of its time - and the Academy Award winning Civil War drama '
Glory'. While time may have eroded away the shock value of the violence, the emotional story and memorable performances make this film one of the best war films ever created. Staff Reviewer Martin Liebman comments, "Glory is a lasting tribute to both the power of courage and heroism and fantastic filmmaking. Sony's Blu-ray release of Glory never disappoints. Sporting a strong, film-like transfer; a powerful lossless soundtrack; and a fine selection of bonus materials; there is no reason not to make one of the best War films of the past several decades a permanent addition to any Blu-ray collection."
For TV on Blu-ray fans, Lionsgate's '
Weeds: Season 4' is a must.
