Blu-ray Sales: January 23-30: Batman Tops the Charts

For the week that ended on January 30th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Batman: Soul of the Dragon topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts to dethrone Tenet for only the second time in seven weeks. The 41st DC Universe Movie is a standalone Batman story, set in the 1970s and featuring Bruce Wayne as a martial arts student who must team up with fellow students defeat a deadly cult. Batman: Soul of the Dragon had an HD share of 79% and 17% of units sold were from the 4K UHD format.

Sliding down to number two on both charts in its seventh week is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Tenet. Christopher Nolan's epic action-adventure has held sway over the home media charts like few others, topping them for five out of the last seven weeks, but this week, with a new Batman adventure on sale, and on 4K UHD, as well, it can't be too surprising to see Tenet take second place. Interestingly, last time it was bested, that was done by Love and Monsters, a title also available on both Blu-ray and 4K UHD formats. This week, Tenet sold 80% as many units as Batman: Soul of the Dragon, with an HD share of 76% and 22% of units sold from the 4K UHD format.

Finally, at number three on the Blu-ray-only charts is Paramount Home Media Distribution's Fatman. The Christmas-themed black comedy starring Mel Gibson as a decidedly not-jolly Santa, received a limited theatrical release in November 2020 and was released to retail this week after having been available to rent from early December. Fatman sold 48% as many units as Batman: Soul of the Dragon, with an HD share of 48%.
