Warner Delays Total HD Until 2008

Warner Brothers has announced that they are delaying the first releases utilizing their Total HD (THD) discs until next year. The discs, developed by Warner, place Blu-ray data on one side and HD DVD data on the other, allowing stores to stock a single package for both high definition formats. As of the last update, the system was only capable of utilizing a BD-25 on the Blu-ray side. This move comes as a welcome relief for consumers, who have been speaking out against THD since it was announced earlier this year at CES. This delay may also indicate that Warner never intended the discs to go mainstream, but only wanted to use the idea to force the camps to come together. The discs are now planned to come out after the holiday season which will most likely decide a victor in the format war.
