For the week of December 28th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release Mark Williams' action thriller Honest Thief, starring Liam Neeson, Kate Walsh, Jai Courtney, Jeffrey Donovan, and Robert Patrick. One of the few movies to receive a theatrical release this past autumn, the film stars Neeson as meticulous thief Tom Carter, who has successfully stolen $9 million from banks without getting caught, but when he falls in love and decides to come clean, he ends up double-crossed by two FBI agents.
Next up, it's ClassicFlix with the Blu-ray debut of Archie Mayo's comedy A Night in Casablanca, starring Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Chico Marx, Charles Drake, and Sig Ruman. This Marx Brothers comedy, that sees them break up a Nazi spy ring, was released in 1946 and marked the end of a five-year hiatus from the screen for the comedy group. The film has been remastered for Blu-ray by ClassicFlix and reviewer Jeffery Kauffman says that the disc "is another very winning presentation from ClassicFlix...Detail levels are often very enjoyable, including things like the webbed inside of Stubel's toupee...or even the checked bathrobe that Stubel wears in some scenes. Contrast is generally solid, with good black levels throughout and nicely modulated gray scale. Grain looks natural, though I didn't notice some expected spikes during things like optical dissolves. ClassicFlix typically does a fantastic job on the restoration side of things, and that's once again the case here, with only very minor speckling and scratches having made it through the improvement gauntlet". ClassicFlix also includes some extras, including an audio-only performance clip and radio commercials, as well as a trailer for A Night in Casablanca along with other ClassicFlix releases.
This week also sees Sony Pictures Home Entertainment release Andrew Cohn's comedy-drama The Last Shift, starring Richard Jenkins, Shane Paul McGhie, Ed O'Neill, Allison Tolman, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Jenkins plays Stanley, an aging fast-food worker, who plans to call it quits after 38 years on the graveyard shift at Oscar's Chicken and Fish. His last weekend takes a turn while training his replacement, Jevon, a talented but stalled young writer whose provocative politics keep landing him in trouble. A flicker of comradery sparks during the long overnight hours in a quiet kitchen.
