Blu-ray Sales: November 21-28: Joker Has the Last Laugh over Thanksgiving

For the week that ended on November 28th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Joker took the top spots on both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts. In a climate of family-friendly blockbuster superhero fare, Todd Phillips' R-rated drama took the DC Comics villain from the clown into a raw, realistic territory and won Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar, on top of grossing over $1 billion worldwide at the box office. Already in the top ten last week, now Joker has moved up five move spots to claim the number one position and had an HD share of 65%, with 27% of units sold being in the 4K UHD format..

In second place on the Blu-ray-only chart is Paramount Home Media Distribution's Sonic the Hedgehog. The high chart position may be due to the fact that the live-action adaptation of the beloved video game character was recently re-released in a Collector's Edition Blu-ray with a slipcover, new artwork and collectible cards featuring promotional images from the film, making it one of the few "new" releases over the Thanksgiving holiday week. Sonic the Hedgehog sold 86% as many units as Joker, with an HD share of 64%, of which 11% came from the 4K UHD format.

Finally, in third place on both the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales charts, is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Harry Potter: 8-Film Collection. The boxed set of the boy wizard's adventures represents almost $8 billion in box office receipts over eight films, and it recently topped the charts again last month. The Harry Potter: 8-Film Collection sold 80% as many units as Joker, with an HD share of 56%, of which 5% came from the 4K UHD format.
