88 Films Announces January Blu-ray Releases

British distributors 88 Films have announced that they will add three new titles to their Blu-ray catalog in January. They are: Blind Date (1984), Darkroom (1989), and The Young Master (1980).

The Young Master

Description: Jackie Chan was already a star when he made The Young Master but this film took him to another level. He plays 'Dragon' who undertakes a mission to find his missing brother, and gets into plenty of scrapes along the way – not least being mistaken for a criminal that the authorities are very keen to put behind bars....

The Young Master was Jackie's second film as director, and he used it as a showcase to demonstrate just what he could do. And it remains a firm favourite of the fans, featuring some of the best set-pieces he ever cooked up. The black-belts at 88 Films are thrilled to present the UK Blu-ray premier of this true Hong Kong classic.

This very special edition features a limited edition Rigid Slipcase, an 80 page perfect bound book with contributions from Tim Murray, William Blaik and James Oliver, a premium fold-out poster and 6 lobby cards.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • The Hong Kong Cut
  • The Export Cut
  • The Extended Export Cut
  • Multiple audio tracks, remastered subtitles, amazing new Artwork from Kung Fu Bob
  • AND MORE TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON...
STREET DATE: JANUARY 25.

Darkroom

Description: Opening with a brutal double axe murder by an unknown murderer, no one can say Darkroom doesn't start as it means to go on – a tough, gory thriller that's equal parts nail-biting mystery and gruesome slasher. Who is this mad killer, that photographs their victims as they die (horribly, of course) – and what drives them to kill?

Darkroom was produced by Niko Mastorakis, creator of the infamously depraved video nasty Island of Death – and more than lives up to its predecessor. 88 Films are proud to present this lost classic of 80s splatter.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • 4K RESTORATION OF THE FILM
  • "Developing Fear" - An Interview with Actor Aarin Teich
  • "Exposing the Truth" - An Interview with Actor Jeff Arbaugh
  • Original Trailer
  • Stills Gallery
  • Limited Edition Slipcase
  • 4 Collectible Postcards
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
STREET DATE: JANUARY 25.

Blind Date

Discretion: Nothing to do with Our Cilla - this Blind Date is an altogether tougher proposition, as you'd expect from exploitation ace Niko Mastorakis (In The Cold of the Night, Island of Death). After losing his sight, Ad Exec Jon Ratcliff (Joseph Bottoms, The Black Hole) is fitted with an experimental device that partially returns his vision.

Although he can't 'see' very much, one night he catches a glimpse of a notorious killer. Is it enough to find the psycho? And can he do it before the murderer catches up with him? One of Mastorakis' best (and bloodiest) films, the cast includes Kirsty Alley (Cheers), Marina Sirtis (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey). 88 Films are sure you'll have a lorra, lorra fun with this lost classic from the slasher golden age.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
  • 4K REMASTER OF THE DIRECTOR'S CUT OF THE FILM, supervised by Nico Mastorakis
  • The Films of Nico Mastorakis Parts 1-4 (over 2 hours)
  • Original Trailer
  • Stills Gallery
  • Music Videos
  • 4 X-Rated Collectible Postcards
  • Limited Edition Slipcase
  • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
STREET DATE: JANUARY 25.
