Blu-ray Sales: October 10-17: Harry Potter Times Eight is Great

For the week that ended on October 17th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Harry Potter: 8-Film Collection took the number-one spots on both the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales charts. The boy wizard's film series has raked in billions at the box office, and in a demonstration of its staying power, the complete series boxed set rose to the top of the charts in a week dominated by catalog releases and repackaged material. The Harry Potter: 8-Film Collection had an HD market share of 66% and 7% of units sold were on the UHD format.

Next on the Blu-ray chart is a new release, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Batman: Death in the Family. Billed as WBHE's first ever interactive release, the collection of five tales from the DC canon centers on its title story, which first appeared in the comics in 1988 and was originally accompanied by a phone vote for readers to decide the fate of Jason Todd, the then-current Robin. The Blu-ray offers a new generation of viewers the opportunity to decide Robin's fate by using their remote controls to advance the story. Batman: Death in the Family sold 63% as many units as Harry Potter and had a perfect HD market share of 100%.

In third place on the Blu-ray chart is Shout! Factory's new Deluxe Edition Friday the 13th Collection boxed set. Released as the original film celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, the 16-disc set contains all 12 films made by Paramount Pictures and New Line Cinema, right up through to the 2009 remake. In addition to extras so copious that they appear on both the individual film discs and two dedicated bonus discs, the set also offers viewers with 3D setups the opportunity to view Friday the 13th: Part III 3-D in real 3D via the Blu-ray 3D format for the first time ever. The new Friday the 13th Collection boxed set sold 60% as many units as the Harry Potter box set did.
