British distributors Curzon/Artificial Eye will bring to Blu-ray two early Bong Joon-ho films: Memories of Murder and Barking Dogs Never Bite. The double-feature release will be available for purchase on November 23.
Memories of Murder
Synopsis: Inspired by true events, Oscar-winning Parasite director Bong Joon-ho's haunting sophomore feature, set in a small province of South Korea in 1986, follows two vastly different detectives eager to catch a brutal serial killer roaming the streets.
After two women are found brutally murdered, Seoul detective Park Doo-man (Song Kang-Ho) is brought in to help inept local detective Seo Tae-yoon (Kim Sang-kyung) investigate these horrific crimes. However, when the body count begins to rise and a pattern emerges, the pair realise they are chasing the country's first documented serial killer, and that they'll need to rely on their basic skills to piece together the clues and solve the case before the killer strikes again.
RE-RELEASED IN A BRAND NEW 4K RESTORATION and recalling such crime classics as ZODIAC and SEVEN, the acclaimed cult thriller MEMORIES OF MURDER is an unsettling anti-procedural that blends true-crime with social satire and even dark comedy in Bong Joon Ho's typically masterfal fashion.
Barking Dogs Never Bite
Synopsis: Parasite director Bong Joon Ho's startling debut film released in the UK for the first time. An out-of-work college lecturer (Lee Sung-jae) becomes so annoyed by the yapping dogs at his apartment complex that he decides to take drastic action. A bold and confident debut which already displays many of the themes and preoccupations that mark Bong Joon Ho's masterful later films.
Synopsis: Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Bong Joon-ho ('Snowpiercer' 'Okja') returns with this black comedy about wealth, greed and class discrimination. Kim Ki-teak's (Song Kang-ho) family are all unemployed and living in a squalid basement. When his son gets a tutoring job at the lavish home of the Park family, the Kim family's luck changes. One by one they gradually infiltrate the wealthy Park's home, attempting to take over their affluent lifestyle.
