For the week that ended on September 19th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Outlander: Season Five took at the number-one spots on both the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales charts. The popular Starz melodrama - and the most recent television project from
Battlestar Galactica co-creator Ronald D. Moore - has become one of the flagship programs for its network. This week,
Outlander had an HD market share of 43%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was an animated feature: Makoto Shinkai's
Weathering with You. Shinaki's follow-up to his beloved anime
Your Name,
Weathering with You found both critical and commercial success after its world-premiere last year. The film, which is Japan's twelfth-highest-grossing film of all time, earned
over $193.1 million worldwide and has a
Metacritic rating of 72%.
Weathering with You had a terrific Blu-ray market share of 90% and sold 85% as many Blu-rays as the
Outlander set. On the overall package-media chart, the film came in fourth place, where it sold 41% as many total units as
Outlander.
Finally, another animated title - Warner Home Entertainment's
Superman: Man of Tomorrow - rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only sales list. This latest superhero adventure from Warner and DC Animated,
Man of Tomorrow pairs Superman alongside the antihero Lobo as the two take on the vicious Parasite. The film sold 54% as many Blu-rays as
Outlander and had a great HD market share of 100%. But on the overall package-media sales chart, the film came in fifth place (behind both
Beetlejuice and
Weathering with You), where it sold 23% as many total units as
Outlander's fifth season.
