For the week that ended on March 14th, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's
Frozen II held the top spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. The sequel to the smash
2013 animated musical,
Frozen II also proved massively lucrative for Disney. The film scored decent critical responses (it has a
64% approval rating on Metacritic) but grossed
almost $1.5 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $150-million production budget. This week,
Frozen II had an HD market share of 57%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment's
Spies in Disguise. This high-concept animated adventure - essentially, it asks the age-old question, "What if James Bond turned into a pigeon?" - underperformed for its distributor last December. It garnered mediocre critical notices (it has a
54% approval rating on Metacritic) and earned
almost $67 million domestically on top of its estimated $100-million production budget.
Spies in Disguise had a solid Blu-ray market share of 65% and sold 51% as many Blu-rays and 45% as many total units as
Frozen II.
Finally, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Knives Out rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. A spirited riff on Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot mysteries, this Rian Johnson film was a sleeper hit following its Thanksgiving premiere. It netted very strong critical notices (it has an
82% approval rating on Metacritic) and earned
$308 million worldwide on top of its estimated $40-million production budget.
Knives Out had an HD market share of 59% and sold 25% as many Blu-rays and 24% as many total units as the
Frozen sequel.
