HMV stores across Canada began a promotion over the weekend, which runs for the entire month of May, where consumers who bring in used DVDs will receive a $7 credit towards the purchase of special marked Fox and MGM Blu-ray discs. Originally conceived the promote the responsible recycling of used DVDs, the program has since morphed to provided used DVDs to children's hospitals and libraries and out of landfills.
Additionally, HMV will be offering special one-day deals - promoted via their
Twitter website - where by turning in 10 DVDs and buying 10 Blu-rays will also yield a $10 gift card in addition to the $7 credit per DVD title (essentially a $8 rebate per DVD turned-in).
