Lorenzo's Oil

Synopsis: True-life drama of a father and mother who battled against the odds to save their son's life. Augusto and Michaela Odone are dealt a cruel blow by fate: five-year-old Lorenzo is diagnosed with a rare and incurable disease, but the Odones' persistence and faith leads to the cure which saves their boy and re-writes medical history. Directed by George Miller, and starring Nick Nolte, Susan Sarandon, Peter Ustinov, Kathleen Wilhoite, and Gerry Bamman.

The Love of Jeanne Ney

Synopsis: An epic of the Weimar cinema, The Love of Jeanne Ney follows a young French woman's struggle for happiness amid the political turbulence and corruption of post-World War I Europe. A tour-de-force for director G.W. Pabst (Diary of a Lost Girl, Pandora's Box), is a stunning cinematic experiment that never fails to surprise the viewer as it races towards its exhilarating conclusion.

Special Features:
  • Audio commentary by film historian Eddy von Mueller
  • Restored German release version with music adapted and orchestrated by Bernd Thewes
  • U.S. release version with music by Timothy Brock
STREET DATE: APRIL 21.

Tartuffe

Synopsis: The most gifted visual storyteller of the German silent era, F. W. Murnau crafted works of great subtlety and emotional complexity through his absolute command of the cinematic medium. Known for such dazzling films as Nosferatu (1922), The Last Laugh (1924), Faust (1926), and Sunrise (1927), Murnau was also drawn to more intimate dramas exploring the dark corners of the human mind. In Tartuffe (Herr Tartüff), he revisits Moliére's fable of religious hypocrisy, in which a faithful wife (Lil Dagover) tries to convince her husband (Werner Krauss) that their morally superior guest, Tartuffe (Emil Jannings), is in fact a lecherous hypocrite with a taste for the grape. To endow the story with contemporary relevance, Murnau frames Moliére's tale with a modern-day plot concerning a housekeeper's stealthy efforts to poison her elderly master and take control of his estate.

Special features:
  • Audio commentary by film historian Troy Howarth
  • Restored German release version with orchestral score by Robert Israel
  • U.S. release version (SD) with music by Giuseppe Becce, adapted by Javier Perez De Azpeitia
STREET DATE: APRIL 28.

Straight Shooting

Synopsis: Cattleman Flint cuts off farmer Sims' water supply. When Sims' son Ted goes for water, one of Flint's men kills him. Cheyenne is then sent to finish off Sims, but finding the family at the newly dug grave, he changes sides. Directed by John Ford, and starring Harry Carey, Duke R. Lee, and George Berrell. NEW 4K RESTORATION.

The Shakedown

Synopsis: Dave Roberts (James Murray) is a professional boxer better at losing in fixed matches than in knocking out his opponents. He turns up in towns and is part of a group who sets up corrupt boxing matches. Dave's life on the margins changes after he meets a mother and son. As he begins to care for them, he ultimately has to decide whether to continue in his low-life ways or turn the tables on those who have been forcing him to participate in them. Directed by William Wyler, and starring James Murray, Barbara Kent, and George Kotsonaros. NEW 4K RESTORATION.
