For the week that ended on January 25th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Zombieland: Double Tap debuted at the number-one spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Director Ruben Fleischer's long-awaited sequel to the popular 2009 horror comedy, Double Tap was a modest success for its distributor. Yes, the film scored mediocre critical marks (it has a 55% approval rating on Metacritic), but it grossed just under $123 million on top of its estimated $42-48-million production budget. This week, Double Tap had a solid HD market share of 68%.

Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Warner Home Entertainment's Joker. One of the year's most divisive, controversial features, this violent character study of the Crown Prince of Crime was a major hit following its October premiere. Despite fairly mixed critical notices (it has a 58% approval rating on Metacritic), it still earned over $1 billion worldwide on top of its estimated $55-70-million production budget and received eleven Oscar nominations, including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture. Joker had a solid Blu-ray market share of 63% and sold 44% as many Blu-rays as Zombieland 2. On the overall package-media list, the film came in third place, where it sold 48% as many total units as the Zombieland sequel.

Finally, Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales lists. This belated sequel (the first Maleficent came out in 2014) underperformed domestically relative to its more successful predecessor. Mistress of Evil scored lower-than-average critical marks (it has a 43% approval rating on Metacritic), and then it earned just under $114 million domestically on top of its estimated $185-million production budget. Maleficent had an HD market share of 58% and sold 42% as many Blu-rays as Zombieland 2. Regarding the overall package-media list, the film came in second place and 49% as many total units as Double Tap.
