For the week that ended on January 4th, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Rambo: Last Blood remained at the number-one spot on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Ostensibly the final feature in Sylvester Stallone's
Rambo franchise, this action-thriller was a modest commercial hit after its September premiere. Despite fairly toxic critical notices (it has a
26% approval rating on Metacritic), it still earned
$91 million on top of its estimated $50-million production budget. This week,
Last Blood had an HD market share of 49%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media sales rankings was New Line and Warner Home Entertainment's
It: Chapter Two. This follow-up to
the hit Stephen King adaptation was a massive commercial hit when it premiered last September. While the film only scored average ratings (it has a
58% approval rating on Metacritic), it earned
$472 million worldwide on top of its estimated $79-million production budget.
It: Chapter Two had a Blu-ray market share of 49% and sold 59% as many Blu-rays and total units as
Rambo: Last Blood.
Finally, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only sales list. Director Quentin Tarantino's nostalgic trip through the Hollywood of his youth scored bug with both critics and audiences following its release last August. The film netted rapturous critical notices (note its
Metacritic score of 83%, for example), and it made over
$372 million worldwide on top of its estimated $96 million production budget.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had an HD market share of 63% and sold 54% as many Blu-rays as
Rambo. On the overall package-media chart, the film came in sixth place and sold 42% as many total units as the
Rambo sequel.
