Paramount Gains Access to BD+ Tools

Macrovision has announced that Paramount Home Entertainment has agreed to license a number of their content protection products, including ACP and RipGuard. The new agreed also allows Paramount to utilize the Blu-ray specific anti-piracy program BD+, a program which encrypts data on the disc using an updatable key.

Chris Carey, Executive Vice President Worldwide Technical Operations, Paramount Pictures, commented, "As Macrovision continues to add valuable content protection technologies to their suite of solutions, it provides Paramount with valuable methods to protect our content when distributed on DVD and Blu-ray media."

Carey did not comment on which (if any) titles would make use of BD+ technology to protect their content. Fox has been a longtime user and proponent of the technology, heavily supporting BD Plus, LLC (the developers of the encryption) and its inclusion in the official Blu-ray spec prior to Macrovision purchasing the technology in 2007.
