For the week that ended on December 28th, Lionsgate Home Entertainment's
Rambo: Last Blood remained at Number One on the Blu-ray-only and overall package-media charts. Ostensibly the final feature in Sylvester Stallone's
Rambo franchise, this action-thriller was a modest commercial hit after its September premiere. Despite fairly toxic critical notices (it has a
26% approval rating on Metacritic), it still earned
$91 million on top of its estimated $50-million production budget. This week,
Last Blood had an HD market share of 59%.
Next up on the Blu-ray-only sales ranking was Universal Studios Home Entertainment's
Abominable. This animated adventure found decent success following its release last September. The film netted average critical notices (note its
Metacritic score of 61%), and it made over
$181 million on top of its estimated $75-million production budget.
Abominable had a Blu-ray market share of 53% and sold 82% as many Blu-rays and 92% as many total units as
Rambo: Last Blood.
Finally, New Line and Warner Home Entertainment's
It: Chapter Two rounded out the top three on the Blu-ray-only sales list. This follow-up to
the hit Stephen King adaptation was a massive commercial hit when it premiered last September. While the film only scored average ratings (it has a
58% approval rating on Metacritic), it earned
$472 million worldwide on top of its estimated $79-million production budget.
It had an HD market share of 57% and sold 77% as many Blu-rays as
Rambo. On the overall package-media chart, the film came in fourth place and sold 80% as many total units as the
Rambo sequel.
